Why choose a Miniature Schnauzer?

The Miniature Schnauzer is the most popular of the three Schnauzer sizes.  This breed is a dog with a personality plus, who's comfortable in an apartment or a large home.  The typical Miniature Schnauzer is alert and spirited, yet obedient to command.  They are generally sweet, loving and loyal to their owner.  Although they often have a favorite person they will love the whole family. This breed does have a need to live as a part of the family, going where the family goes and doing what they do. They seem to have an endless amount of energy doing things with you all day, but when you come home and sit down to relax they are right there with you and are content being perfectly still curled up beside you.  Sleeping on the bed, or in his own, beside his owner is a great joy for the miniature schnauzer.

The miniature schnauzer is highly intelligent, eager to please and learns quickly. They will bark when someone comes to the door, but are easily trained to stop when the owner lets them know the person is not a threat. The miniature schnauzer adapts easily to any change of condition or climate.

The miniature schnauzer is an absolute fantastic breed and makes an excellent companion!!  They are extremely obedient, learn quickly, and are devoted, playful, and affectionate.  His alertness makes him an excellent watch dog. He is spunky and fearless, but not aggressive so that he can run with other dogs.

The Miniature Schnauzer does not shed and is a great choice for a person who has allergies and is allergic to breeds that shed.  Of course, a person with allergies should spend time around the breed before buying a Schnauzer because individual reactions vary widely.

All dogs need some grooming. The Miniature Schnauzer should be groomed every five to eight weeks to to maintain their handsome appearance. Otherwise your miniature schnauzer will have long and shaggy hair and look unkept. Most people choose to have a professional do this. They do need to be bathed weekly.  You will also want to do a weekly brushing on the beard and leg furnishings.

If you're looking for an intelligent, playful, yet versitile dog, this breed fits the bill.
